In Queen, Flack depicts the passing of time. Perishable items, such as a sliced orange and a rose, will soon rot and decay. Pictures of the artist and her mother will eventually fade or be forgotten. Reflective surfaces represent the present, while a watch reminds us that time continues forward. Makeup reminds us of our attempts to hide the effects of time. Flack conveys that life is finite and imperfect, and needs to be lived in the present.
