Although Patrick Caulfield considered himself a formalist, he is most often associated with British Pop art and artists including Eduardo Paolozzi. This unofficial group of artists found great satisfaction in depicting brash, fun, and bold contemporary culture. Caulfield is best known for his canvases and prints comprised of photorealist elements and flattened, brightly hued backgrounds like those seen in his three works on view.
