Benjamin was born in Saugerties, New York; presently, he lives in Schenectady, New York. He is an assistant professor at Union College and a freelance photographer. His work has been exhibited at the University of Illinois, Viewpoint Gallery (Lubbock, Texas), Midtown Y Gallery (New York City), Maine Photographic Workshop Gallery, PHOTOKINA (Cologne, West Germany), and Nikon Gallery (New York City). Benjamin’s work has been published in the magazines American Photographer, Camera Arts, Glamour, New York Magazine, Rolling Stone, Stern, and others. His awards include LIFE Bicentennial Photography Competition (1974), Nikon Faculty Photography Contests (1978, 1979), and a 1981 Creative Artists public Service program (CAPS) photograph fellowship.
