Marc Swanson

American, 1969 -
The son of a New England hunter and outdoorsman, Marc Swanson and his flamboyant work may seem at first glance somewhat at odds with his upbringing. Yet beneath the glitter are elements of the craft and folk art that he absorbed as a child. By combining his rural past with his urban present, Swanson is able to present his own life story while also commenting on larger issues. A perfect examples the bejeweled Antler he has created for this year’s Norton Christmas project, which takes a traditional masculine object and gives it the allure of glamour. Marc Swanson was born in New Britain, Connecticut. He works in film, sculpture, installation, and painting. He received his MFA from the Milton Avery Graduate School of Arts at Bard College, and lives and works in Brooklyn. NY.
